• PM-369 Mental Health Literacy

  Reports of mental health issues are growing rapidly across the globe. It is within this context that Mental Health Literacy (MHL) has evolved as a distinct component of Health Promotion. MHL focuses on understanding how to obtain and maintain positive mental health; understanding mental disorders and their treatments; decreasing stigma related to mental disorders; and, enhancing help-seeking efficacy (i.e. knowing when and where to seek help and developing competencies designed to improve one¿s mental health care and self-management capabilities). Mental Health Literacy is fundamental to improving a person¿s mental health outcomes, decreasing health inequities in populations, reducing the burden on health and social care services, and to aid the development of preventative, proactive health policy. Mental health literacy is also an important empowerment tool as it increases people¿s resilience and control over their mental health and increases confidence in help-seeking behaviour. For students wishing to pursue careers in medicine or healthcare, an enhanced awareness of Mental Health Literacy will be beneficial for their own mental health, and that of their patients, family, friends, carers and co-workers.

• PMAM00 Diagnosis and Assessment of Autism and Related Conditions

  This module will explore the various approaches to diagnose Autism and related conditions from the clinical, social and educational aspects. It will explore Autism from the medical and social model of disability, evaluate different assessment techniques and related them to various processes and referral pathways to obtain a diagnosis. It will further explore the evidence base for the various diagnostic and assessment procedures in relation to service provision and planning.

• PMAM01 Living with Autism and Related Conditions

  This module will explore the history of autism to inform how the autism community lived previously to the present day, debate the use of various approaches, critically review the lived experience of autism (pre- and post- diagnosis) for the autistic individual and their family, explore the issue of parental experiences, discuss how understanding of autism can have an input into service planning and delivery, appraising integrated services and the influence of policy changes on the support provided (clinically, socially and educationally).

• PMAM02 Management of Autism and Related Conditions

  This module will explore the various interventions and approaches utilised in the management of Autism, including the clinical management of co-occurring conditions. It further explores the use of educational interventions to support the development of Autistic people and how these approaches could be incorporated within the clinical and social care services as part of an overall integrated management strategy. Additionally, this module will discuss how you can involve autistic individuals, parents and caregivers in a supportive role as part of an overall management strategy.

• PMAM03 Foundations of Behaviour

  This module will introduce students to the concepts involved in the brain development in terms of the physiological and psychological aspects. Additionally, it will explore how altered neurodevelopment is often described as a component of the behavioural aspects of Autism presentation. Furthermore, students will be introduced to the theoretical concepts of various behavioural management approaches.

• PMAM04 Childhood and Adult Services for Autism and Related Conditions

  This module will explore and evaluate the issues for the provision of Autism related services (including clinical, social and educational) for children and adults with a suspected or actual diagnosis of Autism. Additionally, it will debate the process for the transition from childhood services to adult services to explore how current provision is reflective of need (or not) and how such a transition can be managed. Furthermore, it will evaluate recent policy initiatives in terms of how they can be incorporated and integrated into Autism related services.

• PMAM05 Rights and Responsibilities for Autism and Related Conditions

  This module will explore various aspects of statutory law and its relevance to the provision of Autism related services: for example exploring the legal requirements outlined in The Autism Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998. Furthermore, often due to the behaviour exhibited by autistic people being misunderstood, it has been reported that they can have various levels of engagement with the criminal justice and other legal systems, and this module will explore the interaction between autistic people and legal system to examine the issues involved, to discuss how the criminal justice system is able to accommodate the needs of autistic people . Lastly, the module will critically review and discuss local and national policy directives relating to Autism.

• PMAM06 Work Based Portfolio

  This module will allow students to review, appraise and evaluate the application of the knowledge gained throughout the programme within their own professional work environment by providing a portfolio of evidence that is supported by a reflective commentary.

• PMBM01 Research & Innovation in Biomedical Science

  This module will allow students to review, appraise and evaluate the application of the professional development practice gained throughout their course.

• PMBM02 Introduction to Biomedical Science Practice in Health Care

  The role of Biomedical Science in the delivery and provision of Health Care will be explored and critically evaluated within this module. This module is designed to provide you with the fundamental and principal concepts of Health Care, specifically to support the role of Biomedical Science. It will provide learning activities based around the general themes of Biomedical Science in Health Care, Anatomy and Pathology, Patient Experience, Pharmacology and Professionalism.

• PMBM03 Fundamentals of Biomedical Sciences 1

  This module has been designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and principle concepts of biomedical science from a scientific and practice basis. The module will cover key topic areas ranging from Good Laboratory Practice, Biomedical Diagnostics, Pathophysiology, the disciplines in Biomedical Science and the various approaches involved to ensure Quality Control and Laboratory Management.

• PMBM07 Biomedical Sciences in Healthcare

  The role of biomedical sciences in the delivery and provision of health care will be explored and critically evaluated within this module. This module is designed to provide you with the fundamental and principal concepts of Health Care, specifically to support the role of Biomedical Science, from understanding the principles and organization of the NHS to exploring valued based healthcare. It will provide learning activities based around the various disciplines within biomedical science(s) within health care, explore the importance of IBMS and HCPC practice standards, understanding the patient experience, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and to critically explore professionalism within healthcare delivery.

• PMCB01 Clinical Biochemistry - Metabolism and Nutrition

  This module will explore the key clinical biochemical principles that are relevant to the application of the principles of clinical biochemistry to evaluate the function of the various physiological systems, the biochemistry of the processes involved that support life; from the cellular to whole physiological systems and explore how clinical biochemistry can detect pathological dysfunction. It will critically develop your understanding of the various biochemical processes involved in the analytical detection of function and dysfunction within health and disease states across the life span.

• PMNM03 Physiology and Disease

  This module will explore the various aspects of each physiological system in the human body to describe the normal functioning of these systems and to relate this to common pathologies from a diagnostic, assessment and management perspective. The main organ systems that will be examined are the Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Endocrine System, Renal System, Musculoskeletal System, Gastro-intestinal and Urinary Systems.

• PMPD01 Professional Practice Development

  This module aims to develop students¿ awareness of the key issues, principles and practical applications when engaging in or supporting others¿ professional development both from an individual and an organisational perspective. Through engagement in theoretical and practical activities about mentoring, supervision, reflection, support and performance management, students will enhance their understanding, skills and behaviours in supporting meaningful professional development activities.

• PMPD02 Professional Practice Development 2

  This module has been designed to further develop the students¿ awareness of the key issues, principles and practical applications when engaging in professional development both from an individual and an organisational perspective. It has the primary focus on the development of reflective practice as an autonomous practitioner and development of leadership & mentorship skills to promote a life-long learning approach.

  The Professional Practice Development ¿ Leadership and Management module aims to develop the students¿ awareness of the key issues, principles and practical applications of leadership, mentorship, emotional resilience, interpersonal skills, dealing with uncertainty and complexity as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team within a healthcare environment.

• PMRM03 Research Leadership and Project Management

  This module explores the concepts, principles and applications of various approaches to research leadership and project management. This module focuses on analysing, identifying and developing personal qualities and strategies relating to research leadership. Through engagement in a range of activities aimed at developing self-awareness and insight, reflection, group skills and communication skills, students will be able to determine a personal development plan relating to continuing development in research leadership and project management.

• PMRM04 Dissertation (Research)

  This module builds on the knowledge and skills developed in teaching components in part one of their relevant programme. Students will work independently in order to critically explore and add to the evidence base for a topic of relevance to their area of study.

Dr Noble is a Trustee/Director for The Play & Leisure Opportunity Library, based in Swansea, which is a registered charity providing specialist toys, therapetic play sessions and leisure equipment in South West Wales for children and adults with a disability.
