About

Dr Effie Mitsopoulou is a social psychologist focusing on individual differences and risky decisions across various domains.

Effie completed her PhD at the University of Southampton in 2020, working within the Centre for Research on Self and Identity under the supervision of Professor Tim Wildschut, Dr. Erich Graf, and Professor Matt Garner. Her doctorate research examined the Young Male Hypothesis which proposes that the general tendency for risk propensity to decline with age is stronger among men than women across cross-cultural samples. Effie continues to collaborate with the Centre on research relating to nostalgia and self-regulation strategies.

Prior to starting her Ph.D, Effie completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Rethymnon, Crete and a MSc (merit) in Psychology Methods at Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Apart from her teaching duties, Effie supervise undergraduate theses and she is member of the Ethics and Academic Integrity committee at Swansea University.

Currently, Effie is working in collaboration with Harakopio University in Athens and University of Crete department of Psychology investigating the role of empathy, self-compassion, and self-esteem in traditional and cyberbullying/victimization acts.
