When can I apply for a sports scholarship?
The application process will open from 1st November and close on the 31st of March 2023. Applications after this date will not be accepted.
Can I apply through clearing?
Our scholarship applications will re-open for one week in August (date TBC) to accommodate those student athletes who are entering through clearing. Applications during this time can be made via our website.
The application deadline has passed, can I still apply?
Unfortunately, you will be unable to apply outside of the application windows. However, as sports scholarships are issued on an annual basis, you would be eligible to apply for the following academic year.
Is there a financial reward?
Our Elite & Performance Scholars will receive up to £2,000 per academic year.
Our Talented Sports Scholars will receive up to £1,000 per academic year.
In addition to the financial benefits, we offer a full range of support services for each scholarship package.
*Please note financial awards denote the maximum award at each level and may vary.
Is there a performance criteria I need to meet?
The scholarship selection criteria for our High Performance sports can be found here: Sports Scholarship Selection Criteria. Applications by athletes not competing in the sports listed will be considered on a case by case basis.
Should I provide references with my application?
Yes. It is important to provide as much evidence as possible and two named references in support of your application would be beneficial. This can be a letter/supporting statement on headed paper or any supporting evidence such as video clips.
Can I carry my scholarship over to the next academic year if I defer?
You will not be able to carry over your scholarship. You must meet the conditions outlined in your acceptance letter. Should you not, then you will not receive your benefits package for the named year, and you will need to reapply.
When will I receive payment if I am successful?
If you receive a financial award as part of your scholarship, this will be made in two equal instalments: one before the Christmas recess, and one before the Easter recess.
How will I receive my payment if I am successful?
Payment will be made direct to your bank account.
Who makes the final decision on whether a sports scholarship is awarded?
An independent selection panel is made up of performance sport staff, student sport staff and scholarship supervisors.
If I was awarded a scholarship last academic year, do I need to apply again?
Yes. You will need to apply again, as circumstances do change. Please note that holding a scholarship previously does not guarantee you being grated one again.
Can any sport be eligible for the sports scholarship?
Priority is given, but is not limited to, BUCS sports.
Am I able to have money instead of the services offered?
No. If you are successfully awarded a scholarship, you will receive the package applicable to the award granted.
