Episode 11: From Global to Local: the people's place in tackling climate change

In this episode

Climate change is no longer something that we can think of as a problem of the future or only a matter of concern elsewhere in the world – it is already with us and can be viewed as the defining global challenge of our age. Our current situation is then undoubtedly worrying, but there is a great deal that can be done to mitigate the worst consequences of climate change, adapt to those that cannot be avoided, and secure as much remediation as possible now and into the far future. This includes action at all levels from the institutional to the individual and the global to the local.

In this episode, Professor Karen Morrow and Dr Victoria Jenkins discuss global climate and environmental governance and what people and institutions can do to mitigate and adapt to the consequences of climate change.

About our experts

Professor Karen Morrow holds a chair in environmental law and is a member of the Wales Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group.

Her research interests focus on theoretical and practical aspects of public participation in environmental and sustainability law and policy and on ecofeminism, gender, and the environment.

Professor Morrow's current work focuses on ecofeminist approaches to the challenges of the Anthropocene, with particular emphasis on climate change and global climate governance, and how to achieve truly sustainable inter-human and human-environment relationships in our now rapidly changing world through achieving effective representation of marginalised voices in climate law, policy and decision-making.

Dr Victoria Jenkins is an Associate Professor in Law and has been publishing research on environmental law for more than 20 years.

Her research interests focus on law, policy and governance with respect to sustainable development, landscape and sustainable land management.

Dr Jenkins's work focuses on local and Welsh approaches to these concerns and she is currently considering how to develop an effective governance system for sustainable peatland management which will be important for many countries, including Wales, in contributing to climate change goals.
