Swansea University has been ranked 25th in the Guardian University Guide 2027, up seven places from last year’s Guide.

Unlike rankings that focus heavily on academic research, the Guardian University Guide helps prospective students and their families choose where to study, evaluating 123 UK institutions on factors such as teaching quality, student satisfaction, class sizes, and the percentage of graduates securing graduate-level jobs or further education within 15 months of finishing their degree.

As well as securing the 25th spot in the UK overall, Swansea University also excelled in individual subject rankings, securing top 10 positions in nine areas:

  • Zoology – 1st
  • Paramedic Science – 3rd
  • Pharmacy & Pharmacology – 4th
  • Mechanical Engineering – 5th
  • Media & Film Studies – 6th
  • Languages & Linguistics – 7th
  • General Engineering – 8th
  • Medicine – 9th
  • Criminology – 9th

Additionally, 11 more subjects were ranked in the top 20 such as Health Professions, Economics and English, and a further seven subjects within the top 30, including Law and Sports Science.

Professor Deborah Youngs, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education at Swansea University, welcomed the results: “We’re incredibly proud to be ranked 25th overall in the latest Guardian University Guide. To see such a strong performance across so many different subject areas is particularly pleasing and reflects the breadth and quality of the education we offer here at Swansea.

“We’re committed to giving our students an outstanding experience and supporting them to fulfil their potential, both during their time with us and beyond. We want our graduates to leave Swansea with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to take the next steps in their lives and careers. It’s fantastic to see this recognised in this year’s Guide, and we’ll continue to build on this strong performance.”
