Someone offering legal advice

Swansea residents will be able to benefit from free, confidential legal advice sessions this July.

Experts and students from Swansea University’s Law Clinic will be holding drop-in sessions at Mount Zion Chapel in Bonymaen between 11am-2pm every Monday throughout July.

There, people will be able to seek fee, initial legal advice on a range of topics, including:

  • Housing
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Welfare benefits
  • Employment
  • Discrimination
  • Immigration

There is no need to make an appointment in advance.

The multi-award-winning Swansea Law Clinic benefits the local community by offering free initial advice about legal problems while giving Swansea University students the chance to work alongside practising lawyers to advise real clients.

The Law Clinic cannot assist with any issues that concern criminal law, will writing, tax and debt.

The Swansea Law Clinic is not regulated by the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and does not claim to be a solicitors’ practice. All law students participating receive thorough training and adhere to the pro bono protocol.

Professor Richard Owen, director of Swansea Law Clinic, said: "Swansea Law Clinic is delighted to be running these confidential advice sessions in Bonymaen. This will be a new way of doing lawyering – we aim to provide not only immediate assistance to individual clients with their problems but also get into a dialogue led by the local community to see what part we can play in assisting them meet their future challenges alongside our partners."

Reverend Chris Lewis, minister at Mount Zion Chapel and chair of Eastside Foodbank, said: “I think bringing help to people where they are is valuable. I’m very much on the same page as Professor Owen in this and I welcome this latest development in our collaboration over several years.”
