Eligibility

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be applying for the MSc Fusion Engineering programme 
  • UK fee eligible applicants only. Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is open to applicants eligible to pay tuition fees at the UK rate only, as defined by UKCISA (Full list of categories for HE in Wales) 
  • Have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a 1st class or 2:1 UK undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualification) 
  • Be commencing their MSc course in autumn 2026. Students who are applying in 2026/27 for deferred entry will not be eligible for this award but will be advised of scholarships available to them in their year of entry. 
  • To be eligible for the widening access scholarship, you must also meet at least one of the criteria for underrepresented groups. The definition of under-represented groups may refer to: gender, age, ethnic heritage, students with disabilities, or who require additional funding to support inclusive learning, LGBTQ+ students, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds who may struggle to find the levels of funding needed to complete their studies. This is not an exhaustive list. Please note that we may ask for additional information in support of some of these criteria. 

Funding

The value of each scholarship is £11,500, which is awarded as a monthly bursary. There are seven awards in total for 2026/2027. In addition, we are offering three scholarships at the value of £21,500 to widen access for under-represented groups. The definition of under-represented groups may refer to: gender, age, ethnic heritage, students with disabilities, or who require additional funding to support inclusive learning, LGBTQ+ students, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds who may struggle to find the levels of funding needed to complete their studies.   • Degree certificates and transcripts (if you are currently studying for a degree, screenshots of your grades to date are sufficient)  
  • cover letter including a statement of interest in Fusion Engineering and relevant experience and skills. Applicants who wish to apply for a scholarship must also state this in the cover letter.

  • Evidence of meeting English Language requirement (if applicable - please note that you do not need to hold a valid English Language test at time of application, as any offer made can be conditional upon the appropriate level of English.
