Observatory on Human Rights of Children Projects

The project was funded by Welsh Government. The research findings outline mechanisms to strengthen and advance equality and human rights in Wales, with the report including 40 recommendations for legislative, policy, guidance, or other reforms to meet this objective.

The Observatory is working with the Children’s Commissioner for Jersey to produce a guide (a Children’s Rights Approach) for use by educational and social work professionals to give effect to the UNCRC in their work. The project is due for completion in December 2020.

This project was funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commissioner and examined the impact of the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011, which incorporated the UNCRC in Welsh Law. The project was completed in August 2018. A project report is available here.

This project was funded by the Jersey Children’s Commissioner to examine short falls in compliance between Jersey legislation and the UNCRC. The project was completed in September 2020. Download the project report.

With funding from two successive grants from The National Lottery People and Places, Children as Researchers methodology was used in over 100 local projects throughout Wales to empower children from age 7 upwards to conduct their own research and bring about change, and to contribute to monitoring under the UNCRC. Read more about the projects.
