Providing the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in practice

At Swansea our aim is not only to prepare students for the SQE assessments, but also to give them the depth of knowledge and understanding and the skills necessary for a successful career in legal practice. SQE candidates will be competing in the employment market against each other and against candidates with a recognised LPC. The courses we have developed to help students prepare for the SQE will provide them with a masters’ level qualification which will be recognised by prospective employers and place them on an equivalent footing with students who are looking to qualify via the LPC.

For law-graduates, we have the LLM Professional Legal Practice. The LLM is a year-long masters’ programme, which is designed to help students prepare for both the SQE1 and SQE2 assessments. Part 1 of the course focuses on core knowledge and understanding which is assessed via SQE1, and Part 2 of the course provides students with intensive training on the practical legal skills which are assessed via SQE2.

For non-law graduates, we have the LLM Law & Legal Practice. The LLM is an eighteen-month masters’ programme which is designed to help students with no prior experience of studying law to prepare for the SQE1 assessments.  The first year of the course focuses on the foundations of law which underpin the SQE1 assessments, with the second part of the course developing students’ knowledge and skills in the context of the core practice areas.
