Hapus - The Student Life Toolkit - is a course to help students prepare for the mental, emotional, and practical challenges of university. It provides guidance on how to deal with issues including:

• Procrastination

• Managing your finances

• Managing stress and uncertainty

• Developing resilience

• Guidance on a healthy lifestyle

There is some content that would be really useful for International Students, such as:

• Culture shock

• Managing feelings of isolation and loneliness

• Social anxiety

Along with information on the support services available to help during your time at Swansea University.

If you can, we’d recommend you complete the course before you travel to Swansea, or in the first few weeks after you arrive. It takes about an hour, but you don’t have to complete it all in one go. Take your time, save your progress, and come back to it whenever you want to.

You can access the course via your Canvas account, and it is available in English and Welsh.

Hapus – A Guide for Parents, Partners and Guardians is a course for family members of students. It provides information about the mental, emotional, and practical challenges you may face at university, so they are better able to support you. It also covers issues they may encounter too.
Adjusting to university life can be challenging for both students and their parents, partners, and other family members. The course provides knowledge and advice on how family members can support you, as well as difficulties they might experience and how to handle these too.

The guide deals with many subjects including:

• Life skills

• Mental and physical health

• Sexual health and consent

• Safety

• Keeping in touch

• Specific support for student groups such as international students and mature students

• Culture shock

• Empty nest syndrome

• How to contact the university if you have concerns about a student

• Information on all the support services available at Swansea University

If a member of your family would like to take this course, we recommend they do this before you arrive in Swansea. If this isn’t possible, then the course is accessible at any time of year and the information provided will be useful whenever it is accessed. It takes around half an hour to complete. They can access the course here, and it is available in English and Welsh.
