Swansea University is fully committed to the objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme, sharing the vision for the European Union as an advanced knowledge-based society.

Swansea is committed to its participation in the Erasmus+ programme primarily through the mobility of individuals. We will work with our existing partners across Europe to provide mobility opportunities for students and staff supported by the Erasmus framework. We will identify new partnership opportunities for staff and student mobility.

Key Action 1 of the Erasmus+ programme will make an important contribution to Swansea University’s strategic priorities by:

  • strengthening our international profile
  • deepening global partnerships
  • and enhancing the quality of education and research.

Through Erasmus+, the University will expand opportunities for students to study abroad as part of their degree, broadening their horizons and developing their confidence, intercultural understanding and employability. It will extend its reach and reputation as a partner of choice for international collaboration in teaching, research and enterprise.

Erasmus+ will support the growth of sustainable international partnerships that enable collaborative research and global knowledge exchange. The programme will help attract students and colleagues from across Europe and beyond, while ensuring our learning, research and wider activities remain internationally connected and relevant to both local and global challenges. Together, these outcomes contribute directly to Swansea University’s ambition to develop globally minded graduates who are equipped to thrive in an interconnected world and make a positive difference in society.

Key action 1 of the Erasmus+ programme will allow us to deliver on the following specific objectives defined in Swansea University’s Strategic Vision and Purpose:

  • Extend our global reach and reputation and become a preferred partner for international
  • research, teaching and enterprise collaborations
  • Attract colleagues and students to Swansea from Europe and beyond and ensure that the
  • education, experiences and research we pursue are relevant both locally and internationally,
  • Provide more opportunities for more of our students to study or work abroad during their
  • degree and to relate their learning to the challenges faced by communities around the world to enhance experience and education quality.
  • Grow our international student numbers
  • Develop and grow partnerships to undertake and present research internationally.
  • Deliver on our aim of producing global graduates equipped with the skills to go out into the
  • world and make a difference

Participation in Erasmus+ will positively contribute to achieving our strategic objectives, creating positive impact for students, staff and Swansea University and our region. We aim to increase participation in student mobility at all three cycles, thereby increasing the skills, knowledge and experience of our graduates who will be better equipped to operate within a European and global context. This will ensure we are meeting the needs of employers, locally, nationally and internationally. Increasing the number of staff participating in Erasmus mobility will contribute to the professional development of our staff, lead to new research and teaching collaborations, strengthening and broadening our portfolio of international partnerships and potentially leading to the development of collaborative joint degree programmes. Staff mobility has also been seen as a key driver for student mobility. Participation in Erasmus will improve the quality and relevance of our higher education provision and allow us to meet the objectives of our internationalisation and modernisation agendas.

We are committed to engaging fully in the economic, social, political and cultural development of our region. We will use our research strength, collaboration with industry and global reach to drive economic growth, foster prosperity, enrich the community and cultural life of Wales and, contribute to the health and wellbeing of its citizens. We are dedicated to bringing this global perspective to support the transformation of our region and nation.
