My PhD

Title:
A Framework for Evaluating Diagnostic Imaging Artificial Intelligence Medical Tools

External Stakeholder:
National Imaging Academy of Wales

The Research:
Radiology is a field of medicine concerned with diagnostics, and modern practicioners have to use a variety of complex and highly technical machinery alongside their personal expertise. A great deal of this technology utilises machine learning or artificial intelligence. This PhD centres around ethnographic study to ensure that, not only are current radiologists and radiographers comfortable and confident with the ML tools that they use, but are able to identify, critique and evaluate potential new machine learning systems that they may wish to implement in the future.

Throughout this PhD I will be utilising all sorts of methods from work shadowing and interviews to workshops and construction of low fidelity prototypes for clinicians, with the end goal taking the form of a framework that radiologists can effectively understand but that tackles this topic in depth.
