Waldir is investigating the role of epigenetic and genetic diversity on life history traits of mangrove killifishes (Kryptolebias marmoratus). These species represent the only two known examples of androdioecious mixed-mating system among vertebrates. Their populations are mainly composed by self-fertilising hermaphrodites, which occasionally outcross with rare males. His project is funded through the Brazilian Science without Borders Programme.
