Now in its 24th year, ordinarily the Welsh Varsity is a festival of sport, the tournament sees 48 fixtures across a range of sports competing for the coveted Welsh Varsity Shield.

Due to COVID-19, Varsity 2020 needed to be slightly different. On the 29th of April, we launched our first Virtual Varsity. This unique event was twofold, which saw students from both Universities go virtually head to head throughout the day in a series of challenges. 

The event culminated in a Virtual Varsity quiz, hosted by Swansea University Honorary Fellow, Welsh rugby captain and British Lion Ryan Jones.

“Community and togetherness have never been so essential and we felt it important that we still observe this event and use it to raise vital funds to support individuals and departments within the University who are conducting research into Covid-19, and supporting students, some of whom have joined the frontline NHS to assist in the fight against the virus.
