A pioneer within the industry, Patricia has played a key role in transforming television formats, helping to bring programmes including The X Factor, American Idol and America’s Got Talent to screens worldwide.
Trish always knew she wanted a career in the media. She attended Our Lady’s Convent School in Cardiff and following this, found a degree course that was made for her at Swansea University. The Joint Honours Degree in English and Drama at Swansea encouraged a love of reading and scripts, working with actors, and advocated an experimental approach. It was the springboard Trish needed, but television proved a tricky business to break into. By chance, she heard that South Africa had just launched their television industry and buoyed by ambition, she travelled by boat to Johannesburg, finding there creative freedom, and gaining valuable experience. It was the stepping stone she needed, and, after a year, Trish returned to the UK and got a job with Granada Television.
Trish stayed at Granada for 10 years, working her way up from promotions script writer to researcher and producer.
She then joined Tyne Tees Television as Controller of Entertainment and Children’s Programming and was Executive Producer of the first series of revolutionary youth programme The Word for Channel 4.
Working with Action Time, one of the UK’s first independent television companies, Trish embarked on a mission to share successful television formats from the UK with Europe and vice versa. It was an inspired move and she found it exciting to facilitate collaboration and ongoing dialogue between creative cultures.
Trish’s fresh, experimental approach resonated within an industry ripe for change and in 2010 she was asked by Fremantle Media to join as President of Worldwide Entertainment running a team of producers who travelled round the world to ensure the successful transfer of formats to different countries.
In 2012, she was asked to go to the US to Executive Produce The X Factor, America’s Got Talent and American Idol, ensuring the quality and success of these key British formats in the US and around the world.
In 2023, Trish received an OBE for services to Broadcasting and the International Television Format Industry.
Trish’s dazzling career is testament to her vision, drive and determination.
