After graduating form Swansea Paul joined accountancy firm Coopers & Lybrand. After qualifying as an accountant, he then join the private equity company 3i as investment controller.

Paul then join Capita in 1987 and progressed through the company all the way to Chief Executive in 1999. By the time Paul left Capita in 2014 the company had 62,000 employees and a market capitalization of £7.5 billion.

During his career Paul has also been a non-exec director of Debenhams, non-exec Chairman of Integrated Dental Holdings (the largest chain of dental practices in the UK) and Chairman of Independent Clinical Services. Paul was also an early investor in Purple bricks, the online estate agency and became its non-exec Chairman after its initial IPO.

Paul is currently on the senior advisory board of Towerbrook Capital Partners.
