Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?

I chose Swansea University for the microbiology research being conducted by Dr. Rowena Jenkins at the medical school. As part of my PhD, I am examining the impact of manuka honey embedded within a regeneration template on wound pathogens. Dr. Jenkins has established substantial knowledge in how honey interactions with bacteria, and I chose the university for her expertise. I also liked that Swansea was rated one of the best cities for student night life, and that the university is right on the beach. I also visited Wales a few years ago and have wanted to return ever since.

Can you tell us about your course and what do you enjoy the most?

I am on a research track, so I work full time in a laboratory. I find the professors and fellow postgraduates to be extremely knowledgeable and invaluable to my project’s success. I enjoy learning about microbiology, making friends in the lab, and overall getting to know Wales through my awesome colleagues.

What are your three favourite things about Swansea?

  • The beach
  • Fish and chips
  • Oystermouth Castle

Would you recommend Swansea University to other international students?

Yes definitely. I have met so many incredible and welcoming people at Swansea University – and in Swansea as a whole. The university, and Swansea, are in a perfect location as they are close to a lot of interesting places like Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, the Gower, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, etc. There is a lot of fascinating history and social life offered here.
