About

Stephen is a reader in public health and epidemiology.  He was previously a University Research Lecturer at the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford and, before that, was based at the University of Wales College of Medicine, The London Hospital Medical College, Nuffield College Oxford, Cardiff University and the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. 

Publications include many in the Lancet, the British Medical Journal and leading gastroenterology journals.  Projects have been conducted for the Wellcome Trust, United European Gastroenterology, the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition, National Institute for Health Research, The Health Foundation, Royal College of Physicians, British Society of Gastroenterology and the Department for Transport.   

He has taught on the Swansea medical MBBCh course for the last fifteen years and has supervised MSc dissertations in Trauma Surgery over the last ten.

  • Mortality following acute hospital admissions for gastrointestinal and other disorders across England and Wales
  • Fatal occupational injuries, drowning, suicides and infectious diseases
