About

Paul gained his PhD in 2006 in plant population genetics and evolution, where he studied the introgression of DNA into native plant populations using dominant and co-dominant molecular markers. He then moved into aquaculture research, applying molecular techniques to study aquatic systems, before taking up a post-doctoral position at Swansea University Medical School in 2009. There, he investigated genes associated with stress responses in the model Actinomycete Streptomyces coelicolor. Since then, Paul has maintained a strong interest in bacterial genomics and has led a range of translational and interdisciplinary projects spanning microbiology, human health, and cancer research. His current work focuses on the role of the human gastrointestinal microbiota in shaping patient responses to chemotherapy, with the goal of developing novel microbiome-informed therapeutic strategies
