About

Professor Yuqin Wang obtained her BSc in Pharmacy from Peking University in China. She started her research career at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, where she obtained a PhD in Medical Biochemistry. She was classically trained as a protein/lipid biochemist, becoming well versed in protein/lipid purification and analysis techniques, in particular mass spectrometry. Following postdoctoral training in industry and at University College London, she took a lectureship at Swansea Univeristy, UK in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013 and Professor in 2018.

Professor Wang is an active member of the international lipidomics community and was one of the lead organisers for a number of meetings, including the 5th European Lipidomic Meeting, the 3rd Symposium of the European Network for Oxysterol Research, and the EMBO practical course in "Lipid mass spectrometry and lipidomics". From 2016, Professor Wanf has served as a committee member for the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and is a member of Editorial Board for Clinical Mass Spectrometry.

Professor Wang’s research is focused on cholesterol metabolism and its relation to human health and disease. In collaboration with Professor William Griffiths, Professor Wang is a co-inventor on a US patent, i.e. “Kit and method for quantitative detection of steroids” (US9851368B2).

PM-344 Capstone Project

The aim of this module is to provide a capstone experience to students¿ learning, through participating in their own enquiry-based research project, with guidance from an academic supervisor. The project may be laboratory or non-laboratory based, but it will always involve a research question that is drawn from the literature, and focused on a topic relevant to the life sciences. It will ask a research question and involve the critical analysis of research findings. Students will refine their oral and written communication skills to a graduate level through an oral presentation and dissertation on their research findings and conclusions.
PM-376 Advanced Research Topics in Biomedical Science

This module seeks to provide students with an understanding of a diverse array of research topics within the field of Biomedical science as representative of the diverse research activity at Swansea University. Topics will reflect the current research staff activity, but may include topics such as extracellular vesicles, lipidomics, cardiovascular research, cancer therapeutics and biomaterials research. Students will gain a background to each topic, an appreciation of the current methodologies utilised within each field and the current research developments within these.
