About

Kirsty Thomas joins Swansea University from a leading mental health charity in Wales where she worked as the Lead Occupational Therapist with adults with complex trauma. As a practitioner Kirsty has worked in primary care, acute mental health in the NHS as well as in community forensic services. Kirsty has a keen focus in education, both teaching students in practice as well as continuing her learning and specialising in sensory integration. This work took her to register as a private Practitioner in 2020 with adults with learning disabilities.

With this extensive experience both in mental health and learning disabilities, and strong local links to practice Kirsty joined Swansea University in 2022 to help deliver the new Royal College of Occupational Therapist accredited BSc in Occupational Therapy. Kirsty aims to guide occupational therapy students through the curriculum with a keen focus in practice placements. As such Kirsty is the occupational therapy programme’s Practice Placement Tutor. Her role involves liaising with partners in the NHS, social care, 3rd sector and private settings to ensure the best practice placements for Swansea University students.
