This module prepares students for studying at degree level. They are encouraged to develop a questioning approach, to structure an argument, to write academically and to avoid plagiarism. Students are introduced to the study skills needed for successful learning within a higher education environment.
Students are supported to work autonomously as well as together in a community of practice to develop their own knowledge and skills and support the development of their peers.

Introduction to Research
This module provides an introduction to the common approaches used in research in the humanities and social sciences. Students will gain a broad introductory understanding of research and actively engage with some of these research methods, carrying out small research tasks within the module. Students will work together and support each other in a community of practice, developing their knowledge, understanding, and skills in research. This module will also support subject-specific learning and skills development to prepare students for the final research essays that they will write in the second semester.
