About

Professor Powell is a consultant neurologist and honorary clinical chair at Swansea University Medical School. He practices clinically as a neurologist in Swansea Bay University Health board (SBUHB) with sub-speciality interests in epilepsy and sleep neurology.

He has undertaken research into the use of advanced neuroimaging techniques in patients undergoing epilepsy surgery and his ongoing research interests include using routinely collected data for clinical neurology research. He aims to incorporate research into his standard clinical practice, with recruitment of patients from SBUHB neurology clinics into the Swansea Neurology Biobank.

He is a co-investigator and executive member of the Swansea Neurology Biobank, co-investigator of the Genetics of Familial Epilepsy Projects, a member of the neurology SAIL group and a named collaborator on a number of international epilepsy genetics consortia. He has been the principal investigator in SBUHB for a number of multicentre National Institute for Health Research studies and commercial drug trials.

Rob is a council member of the UK chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy, and has recently been a member of the Association of British Neurologists (ABN) Advisory Group for Epilepsy. He is a member of the ABN Education Committee, and is chair of the Specialist Training Committee for Neurology in Wales.
