Player Development Centre (PDC)

Swansea University is proud to be one of the three Welsh Rugby Union’s Player Development Centres (PDC’s) to support the development of high potential female players across Wales to help them achieve their ambition and journey to become an elite rugby player.

The programme allows our female rugby players to access a high-performance development environment and aspire to play for Wales in the Test arena. The PDC is jointly funded with the WRU and surrounding partners, and facilitates the development of the women’s rugby game, with the aim to deliver local and high-quality training and coaching programmes for the high potential, pre-elite female players. The PDC allows for a key stepping stone for female rugby players looking to achieving international honours and represent Wales.

The PDC will;

  • Identify and support the development of high potential, pre-elite female players, aged 16 to 25, through a programme that caters for the needs of the player, performer, and person.
  • Prepare players for the rigors and demands of elite level club (Celtic Challenge or Allianz), and full-time rugby on the world stage with Wales.
  • Create a pathway to the Wales teams, who are ready to win major tournaments.
  • Ensure players educational needs are integrated within their rugby player development and dual career aspirations are supported through academic and vocational education engagement.
