Mother and Daughter at graduation

Mother and daughter duo, Sharon and Annelise, both recently completed their degrees in Criminology at Swansea University, achieving excellent results.

Annelise Hall was enrolled on the BSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice course at Swansea University.

Once here, with the encouragement and support of her lecturers, she completed her dissertation on the topic of Hostile Environment Policy. After graduating with first-class honours in 2021, she has since gone on to complete an MPhil in Criminological Research at the University of Cambridge.

Annelise Hall had this to say:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Swansea University. The staff were supportive, and engaging, made me feel at home, and truly gave me a good grounding for the next chapter of my academic journey.”

Annelise’s mum, Sharon Mair, graduated at Swansea’s postgraduate ceremony in December 2022, with a distinction from her MA in Applied Criminal Justice and Criminology.

Sharon’s professional background includes work with the NHS and Local Government, as well as experience as a Magistrate and Presiding Justice. Sharon has worked with public bodies offering support and comprehensive investigative services across several sectors.

With these accomplishments, as opposed to the typical academic qualification requirements, Sharon was accepted onto the programme and ultimately excelled in her postgraduate degree.

Sharon Mair said the following about her experience at Swansea:

“Having studied both online (during lockdown) and then in person, it is evident to me that Swansea University actually walks the talk demonstrating a consistent commitment to their students, underpinned by an unwavering personal investment in the achievement of each student.”

Head of the School of Social Science, Professor Debbie Jones had this to say on the excellent achievements of both women:

“Annelise and Sharon are both shining examples of women who set out to achieve their academic goals. On behalf of the department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy, it has been a pleasure to teach them both and to celebrate their successes with them. We wish them continued success in the future ”
