Building expertise to address major challenges

The Faculty of Science and Engineering has launched 5 new Research Institutes. These will play a crucial role in advancing knowledge and addressing global challenges. They have specific missions and goals, building innovative collaborations to inspire, support and deliver world-leading, challenge-led research. We will build on our research strengths to produce research that is of the highest quality and has a global impact. 

Analysis of the REF2021 results for the Faculty of Science and Engineering show:

  • 91% of Faculty of Science & Engineering submission to the assessment, over 8 units, was classed as either ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world-leading’. 
  •  87% of impact case studies were assessed as ‘world-leading’ and internationally excellent. 
  •  The Faculty’s research environment was assessed as over 93% world-leading or internationally excellent.
