Swansea University is marking its centenary by asking children to share their vision of how it would look in another 100 years.
It has just launched a new competition inviting pupils from the Swansea area to reveal just what they think the University of the Future would be like.
Would it still look the same? What inventions would its scientists be working on and would lectures be taught by robots?
“We think the possibilities are endless," said Swansea University’s head of marketing Alison Parker who has helped organise the competition.
“So much has happened to develop University life since the first students arrived at the University in 1920 and we would love to hear what you think could come next. Your ideas and thoughts will be so important in helping us imagine what our students will be up to in the future.”
The competition has been designed to appeal to all ages and there are exciting prizes on offer.
Pupils in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) are invited to grab their colouring pencils paints, chalks and paper to draw a picture of the University in 100 years’ time. It can be feature anything - from classrooms to teachers, or even how students will be getting around.
Key Stage 2 (Years 3,4,5 & 6) pupils need to create a short story or a poem describing their idea for the University of the Future, in, no more than 100 words.
The winning picture of the Key Stage 1 section will be brought to life in a short animated film featuring the winning story from the Key Stage 2 competition. This film will be narrated by a well-known special guest and will be posted on the University’s website as part of its Centenary celebrations.
For pupils in Key Stages 3&4 (Years 7,8,9,10 & 11) the challenge is to think about how they could bring the future to life. The organisers want to know what our students could be researching in 2021 and are after videos featuring the youngsters’ ideas. They could also send in an animation or model on their computer, complete with their own narration.
The winner of this would have their video introduced by our special guest and be part of the ongoing celebrations. The best videos will also be added to our website for everyone to see.
