Facilities for Music Making

To gain access to the music practice rooms, please fill in this form. Access to these music rooms will be updated every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays). After access has been added to your student card, you must update your card at a card update point; a list of which can be found in the ‘Best Practice’ document attached to the form. Once you have access to the rooms, you may use them at your own discretion, noting that these rooms cannot be booked in advance. Please also ensure you adhere to the guidelines found in the ‘Best Practice’ document. 

This information is intended to help keep the instruments and décor of these rooms in a good state of repair, and to maximize the benefit and enjoyment they offer to all users.

General information:
• Four practice rooms are available on the Bay Campus, each containing an upright piano.
• These are located in the same building as the gym and sports hall. The door is in the courtyard of the building, adjacent to the gym entrance.
• Three practice rooms are available on Singleton Campus, each containing at least one upright piano and one containing an additional Yamaha Clavinova
• These are located on the top floor of Fulton house behind Lecture rooms A, B &C
• The practice rooms are available on Singleton Campus from 9am to 10pm every day. On Bay Campus they are available between 9am-6pm.
• Maximum amount of time per booking is 3 hours
• There are no toilets available adjacent to the practice rooms. However, toilets are available elsewhere on the campus.
• Rooms are able to be used on a first come, first served basis, strictly 1 person per room at one time

After access has been added to your card, your card will need to be updated at one of the update points below: 

• Do not bring food or drink into the practice rooms, apart from bottled water.
• Make sure your hands are clean before playing the pianos.
• Piano stools must not be adjusted or moved while they are being sat on;
• You are welcome to open the top lids of the pianos, but the front panels must not be removed.
• It is absolutely forbidden to touch or adjust the piano mechanism. If there is a fault or problem, please raise a works order
• Do not place any items on top of or inside the pianos.
• Do not store any items in the practice rooms.
• Do not remove any furniture from the rooms: this includes the piano stools!
• Do not attempt to move the pianos within the rooms.
• Always leave doors closed.
• Always close windows after use
• Please take your litter away with you.
• If people in neighboring rooms ask you to play/sing less loudly, please respond considerately!
