Pau is the capital of the Pyrenees-Atlantiques and encompasses the Basque and the Bearn people. The Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour is a multi-campus university spanning a network of 5 campuses, and if you go on exchange you will be based at Pau: the city campus. It is situated at the foot of the Pyrenees, just one hour from ski stations – perfect if you enjoy skiing! There are around 60 student societies, and the university is rich in culture with concerts and live shows (theatre, dance, the circus) held from September to June. The local CROUS (university student service centre) assists students with accommodation – which is either on campus or in private accommodation in town.
