Our research on the heritage of the built environment attracts major funding from the ESRC, AHRCBritish Academy and the Heritage Lottery Fund. It involves collaborations with local government, Cadw, Welsh and UK Government, and we now have a strong track record in preservation and heritage-led regeneration.

To meet the challenges of heritage research, our historians, classicists and archaeologists work with specialists in social research, human-computer interaction and engineering. We seek to place communities at the heart of understanding the cultural value of the built landscape, and embrace new technologies for presenting heritage.

Research focuses on preserving the globally significant industrial heritage of South Wales. The landmark Copperopolis project has reminded the world that Swansea once stood at the centre of a major global industry. We also have a significant focus on classical, medieval and early modern heritage, including projects on the protection of archaeological sites and monuments.

The College has several research groups offering research, training and supervision on issues of built and landscape heritage as well as literary and cultural heritage
