My research focusses on how species interactions and stochastic environmental variability combine to influence different types of ecological stability and invasive species dynamics. I combine analytical, simulation and statistical modelling approaches to investigate how different forms of environmental variation (spatial and/or temporal) drive changes in populations, always aiming to combine population biology theory with empirical work wherever possible, across a range of study systems.

Recent and ongoing research projects include: (i) investigating eco-evolutionary dynamics and responses to environmental variation in stage-structured populations; (ii) developing our understanding of invasive species and their management; (iii) integrating ecosystem resilience into coastal planning for the persistence of natural flood protection and wetland ecosystem services; (iv) investigating the impacts of environmental variation in simple evolutionary models.
