This module provides an introduction to core nursing concepts, such as law, ethics, research, numeracy and health promotion. Completion of this module will empower the student to participate effectively in the delivery of healthcare practice. And the student will have the opportunity to undertake a range of clinically focussed skills appropriate to their relevant professional body. This core module also addresses key areas in study development using a variety of learning strategies to ensure the student can effectively acquire and utilise knowledge.
The module provides health care professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their care and management of the person with diabetes. The emphasis is on the health continuum, the prevention of potentially disabling complications and the promotion of a full and satisfying lifestyle.
This module provides students with the opportunity to critically examine their role in relation to management and leadership issues. The focus will be on providing the student with knowledge and skills to enhance their leadership roles.

This module will allow students to gain insight into the clinical decision making process its importance in planning safe and effective care to a range of service users/clients. The module will explore the development of nursing and its values. The theories of nursing and the nursing process will be introduced.
The philosophy of the module is the belief that continued development underpins professional practice. Throughout their professional lives, qualified nurses need to take responsibility for their own learning and development. In order to achieve this, they need to be able to recognise their learning and developmental needs, developing appropriate strategies to fulfil them. Development encompasses both personal and professional aspects as one cannot be separated from the other. This module draws on the content of other modules within the year and experiences in practice to introduce the concept of professional practice. The students will demonstrate this learning through the medium of a portfolio and by producing a patchwork text.

The module also aims to give a greater insight into the application of legal, ethical and professional issues to practice. This module draws on the content of modules within Years 1 and 2 and experiences in practice to consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitude for professional practice in the field of adult nursing.

The aim of this module is to enable nursing students to develop the knowledge and skills to evaluate and advance professional nursing practice. It will help them to identify areas for improvement and help identify any potential limitations within the context of current policy and organisational cultures. The module will enable the student to develop their own potential, advancing their own practice whilst evaluating the impact on self, patients, service users and other professionals.
This module provides an introduction to leadership and management concepts and theories, situated within a healthcare or educational context. It also introduces students to the approaches and evidence base of leadership and management literature and organisational analysis. Consideration of contemporary leadership and management issues in clinical leadership enables students to gain appreciation of the wider aspects of public service, health systems, health professions education and organisational responses.
