Dr Martyna Joanna Surma is a Research Assistant at the Biophilic Centre of Excellence at Swansea University, contributing to the project funded by UK Research and Innovation: REPAIR: Retrofitting for the Future: Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Adaptation. 

As a multidisciplinary researcher, she has gained international experience in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States. Her research focuses on the synergies between various fields, including real estate, urban planning, environmental sciences, economics, and business studies. She possesses both quantitative and qualitative research skills, with an emphasis on a transdisciplinary understanding of the mechanisms that contribute to the development of sustainable cities and communities.

She has collaborated with stakeholders from both the government and business sectors, particularly within the global real estate industry, to address contemporary challenges related to the built environment. Her collaborative efforts include partnerships with organizations such as the International WELL Building Institute, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, Columbia University, and the University of Copenhagen.

Dr Surma has participated in projects funded by UK Research and Innovation and the European Union. Her research has been presented at conferences hosted by esteemed institutions, including the British Academy, the University of Cambridge, and the American Real Estate Society. Financial support for her work has been provided by the Economic and Social Research Council through the University of Oxford, the James R. Webb Foundation Doctoral Program, and the Kosciuszko Foundation.

She holds two PhDs: one in Real Estate and Planning, and another in Environmental Planning.

Dr Surma is a committee member of Global Women in Real Estate.

She is a reviewer for the Journal of Corporate Real Estate.
