About

As a social worker and counsellor, Angela is particularly interested in resilience and self-development in the field of social work and how social work students and social workers sustain themselves in a rewarding yet challenging career. Angela is interested in relationship based social work and a genuine person centred approach, which values both the individuals we work with and ourselves.

Angela has a wealth of experience of working as a social work practitioner, having first qualified in Cardiff in 1988. Angela has worked mainly in statutory children’s services, starting in Cardiff and then with Neath and Port Talbot. After working as a senior practitioner in Children’s services, Angela went on to work in training and development in Social Services and has delivered training to qualified social workers and multi-agency staff as well as being a lead coordinator for social work student placement learning opportunities and supporting qualified staff in post qualifying awards. Angela is also a qualified counsellor and has worked with young people and adults before taking up her current post with the university as lecturer in Social work. Angela is employed by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol  to promote and support students’ and staff’ engagement with the Welsh language and context provision on the Social Work Programme. This role involves contribution to teaching and facilitation of bilingualism by staff and students, in the classroom and practice learning environment, working alongside colleagues and  local authority partners, and supporting staff and students to engage with the Welsh language in social work and social care. More broadly, Angela is committed to enhancing the Welsh language provision within the bilingual environment of the School of Health and Social Care.
