The Postgraduate Research Office provides training for staff who are supervising research students. All new supervisors, or supervisors new to Swansea University, will complete the course "PGR Supervision at Swansea University". In this course, you will have the opportunity to meet other supervisors and discuss case studies and PGR processes with them, receive an overview of the essential regulations and procedures, and learn who to contact across the institution for support with different aspects of supervision.
Further training is also available on Managing Expectations and Performance, Giving Constructive Feedback and PGR Supervision Q and A. More information on all of these courses is available from Development and Training Services (DTS) within HR. Log in to ABW to find out more and to book your place.
PAWS (Peer Academic Writing Support) provides staff and PhD students on Singleton Campus the time and place for protected writing time and support from their peers to improve their writing/encourage writing output.
We meet currently in Vivian Tower, room 813, twice a week (Monday and Friday) from 10am to 12pm to focus on our writing. This can range from articles, grant proposals to chapters, but also includes reading, reviewing and editing as well as outlining a piece of writing. You can work on your laptop, simply on a piece of paper or a print-out – depending on your task and way of working. Feel free to join us on the days you can manage, and you don’t have to come for both hours if you can only free yourself for one hour.

We are looking forward to meeting and welcoming you to our group.

Do you ever feel like an impostor? Do you worry that you are not ‘good enough’ for postgraduate research? Does your confidence suffer as a result? You are not alone.
This informal coffee and a catch-up session for postgraduate researchers at Swansea University will explore ‘Impostor Syndrome’ and will open up a discussion on how you can manage it.
Meet other postgraduate researchers, share your experiences and exchange advice. It’s a great opportunity to take a short break from your research and focus on self-care.
This session is inspired by a blog post, by Swansea University PhD researcher Lauren Burns, on dealing with Impostor Syndrome.
