Key Information

The global economy faces a state of multifaceted crisis, where the effects of numerous events are creating a sustained campaign of challenges for business. In response to these challenges, many businesses have found the need to develop a more resilient operating model, in addition to a more resilient workforce. The drive towards resilience has led to a significant academic interest, predominantly focusing on how businesses can use resources to create situationally specific capabilities at times of crisis, in a bid to develop greater agility. 
 
The School of Management is seeking research proposals exploring the impact of crisis on business with a focus on one or more of the following topics: 

  1. Small business resilience 
  2. The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within Crisis Management 
  3. Resilient character traits 
  4. Resilient cultures 
  5. Impact of resilience on business performance 

The School would be particularly interested in the above topics when contextualised within the following sectors: 

  1. Retail  
  2. Hospitality 
  3. Manufacturing 

We will not accept any AI generated research proposals

Eligibility

Qualifications required

A minimum of a 2.1 at Undergraduate and a merit at Masters, or equivalent international qualifications.

Subject backgrounds considered

Business and related fields.

Experience/other skills and qualities required

  • Critical Thinking: Evaluating information to make reasoned decisions and reach conclusions. 
  • Academic Writing: Excellent writing skills for producing a high-quality dissertation. 
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication for presenting research findings in closed and open forums. 
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capability to address complex research questions and challenges. 
  • Self-Motivation: Ability to work independently and stay motivated throughout the research process. 
  • Time Management: Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Research Skills: A foundational understanding of the key features of rigorous and ethical research.
