Transport on Open Day

Routes around the University can be very busy with traffic on Open Days. We advise that you allow sufficient time for your journey.

Allow extra travel time: Bus services may be reduced or delayed, so please plan to arrive earlier than usual.
Plan parking in advance: Our campus car parks may be busier than usual — directions and parking information can be found below.

Travelling by Car

There will be yellow AA signs and Student Ambassadors to direct you to our parking.

Singleton Park Campus: Parking is free for Open Day visitors at the Recreation Ground car park (SA2 0AT : /// pilots.caged.curiosity) and Singleton Park Campus (SA2 8PP : ///moving.this.radar).

Bay Campus: Please use our free Bay Studios park and ride service (<5 minute journey time) - location SA1 8QB, : /// exploring.books.screen.

Campus parking is available for blue badge holders or mobility / access requirements only on this site.

Travelling by Train

Great Western Railway (GWR) offer a 20% discount on all routes to Swansea for our open days. Your Railcard can also be used for extra savings.

‘Advanced Purchase Ticket’ and when to buy it

‘Advance Purchase’ refers to a ticket that can be purchased up to 18:00 on the day before travel, subject to availability. Once purchased, it is non-flexible (i.e. unable to change times or dates of travel) and non-refundable.

I cannot see the discounted fare

Advance Purchase’ for the student fare are denoted by a small cross against the ticket price. If there is no red cross shown, then the advance purchase fares for that day may have sold out. Once the discounted fare has been chosen, an asterisk ‘*’ will be displayed underneath the fares section.

The link to the booking page does not work

You may need to update your internet browser; we advise using Google Chrome or Firefox. There may be a need to clear your cookies.

I cannot see the promotional fare

Travel is only available on GWR routes, so please check that the entirety of the journey is on GWR. Please also check the booking horizon. Sales open for Advance Purchase 12 weeks before travel.

Booking can only be made through the link provided.
The Open Days GWR travel offer is only available for travel on GWR services. If travelling from or within a region of the country that is not part of the GWR network, you may need to purchase separate tickets to the chosen destination.
The destination must be Swansea University for you to see the discount. There is no train station at Swansea University itself, you will need to get off the train at the Swansea station and make your way to your campus from there.
Origin of the journey must be within the GWR network, but please note that Advance Purchase tickets are not available for short-distance journeys.
The scheme is only available for use with Advance Purchase tickets. These set times and dates of travel are non-exchangeable and non-refundable.
The Open Days GWR travel offer is available for the dates provided by Swansea University and the week that the event takes place, running from Saturday to the next Sunday. So, stay for more than a day to get a feel for the local scene.
Discount can be used with the Railway Card 16-25. Tick the box on the page next to it and select from the drop-down menu.

Discount is only valid when tickets are purchased directly from GWR.com and not through a third party such as Trainline.

The key terms and conditions

This discount is valid only for students traveling to Open Days at Swansea University on February 28, 2026, March 28, 2026, and June 13, 2026.

The discount is redeemable for travel from any location to Swansea Bus Station or Swansea University, Bay Campus.

It is only valid for travel occurring on the following dates: February 27-March 1, 2026; March 27-29, 2026; and June 12-14, 2026.

Bookings must be made at least 3 days in advance.

This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, including Coachcards.

This offer cannot be used on third-party services.
