Meet our MA Cyber Crime and Terrorism Graduate, Cara

I decided to study the MA in Cyber Crime and Terrorism after taking the module Countering Violent Extremism in my third year and conducting my final year Independent Research Project on perceptions of terrorism. From this, I realised that I wanted to enhance my knowledge on the subject further.

The best thing about the MA was the opportunities that came from the course, from being taught by experts in the field, and having a Q&A session with Lord Carlile KC. Moreover, during lockdown I had the opportunity to be a part of a research internship analysing social media transparency reports into government requests for access to user information and content removal requests.

If I had not studied the MA in Cyber Crime and Terrorism I would not have the skills that I have now. These skills have enabled me to work in a field which I am passionate about.

For students thinking about studying this course I would advise them to do it! The course is challenging, relevant and covers a plethora of topics which will appeal to anyone who has an interest in the field. Despite Coronavirus affecting lectures and teaching in the second semester, the support from the staff on the course was exceptional and consistent. Since graduating I have secured a job at Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.
