Eligibility (2026/27)

  1. You must be classified as an overseas student for fee purposes.  If your fee status changes at any point, the bursary will be withdrawn.
  2. You must be fully self-funding your studies.
  3. The Nepal Bursary can only be received once, at the beginning of your full-time degree studies at Swansea University (Singleton Park campus and Bay campus). Students who have previously received the Thrive Bursary or Sri Lanka Bursary are not eligible to receive the Nepal Bursary.
  4. Your Ordinary Residence must be in Nepal. Your Ordinary Residence is the country where you have been domiciled for the last 5 years and excludes countries in which you reside purely for the purpose of studying.
  5. You must be enrolling on to a full-time taught course at Swansea University in the academic year 2026/27.
  6. Students studying Taught Undergraduate and Taught Postgraduate programmes of study are eligible for the Nepal Bursary.
  7. The following types of programme are NOT eligible for the Nepal Bursary -:  PhD, MPhil, MRes, Masters by Research and professional courses. Students studying for a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma will not be eligible for this award.
  8. Your course fees must be higher than £16,000 per year to be eligible for the Nepal Bursary.
  9. The Nepal Bursary of £6,000 will be applied as a discount off tuition fees for the first year of study.
  10. For Undergraduate students, there will be a progression bursary of £2,000 in subsequent years, this will be applied as a discount off tuition fees. This will only be applied if you successfully pass and progress to the subsequent year. Students retaking a year will not receive the Nepal tuition fee discount, but the Tuition fee discount of £2,000 will be applied again on successful progression. The progression bursary was introduced in September 2025 and is only available for students who enrol at Swansea University at this or subsequent intakes.
  11. Awards for Pre-Masters courses are made separately by The College, Swansea University and have their own terms and conditions. Students progressing to Swansea University from a Pre-Masters course are not eligible for the Nepal Bursary.
  12. Awards for Foundation courses with The College, Swansea University are made separately by The College and have their own terms and conditions. For students that progress from a Foundation course with The College to an Undergraduate degree at Swansea University, there will be a progression bursary of £2,000 in the first year and each subsequent year of their Undergraduate study, this will be applied as a discount off tuition fees. This will only be applied if you successfully pass and progress to the subsequent year. Students retaking a year will not receive the tuition fee discount, but the Tuition fee discount of £2,000 will be applied again on successful progression.
  13. You cannot usually receive more than one award from International Recruitment and Operations e.g. Partnership Bursary, International Excellence Scholarship.  If you are in receipt of one of these awards, it will replace the Nepal Bursary.
  14. If you are in receipt of the Nepal Bursary, it may be possible for you to apply for other scholarships or bursaries offered by the University and combine them however, this will be subject to the terms and conditions of the other awards. Postgraduate students in receipt of an Alumni Bursary are also eligible to receive the Nepal Bursary if they haven’t received the Nepal, Sri Lanka or Thrive Bursary previously. The maximum combined amount for all University awards is £7,000 in a single academic year.
  15. If you are holding a Nepal Bursary and you suspend your studies, the bursary will be held on your University account and carried forward to the year of resumption of studies. You will be expected to pay your personal contribution on a pro-rata basis.
  16. International Recruitment and Operations reserve the right to make, amend, withdraw, suspend, or cancel without notice these and such other Regulations as may be in force from time to time and such decisions shall be final.
  17. The Nepal Bursary cannot be deferred to another academic year but may be deferred to a new entry month within the same academic year.
  18. Swansea University will withdraw any bursary that has been awarded that does not meet the above terms and conditions, including if any circumstances change after the award is made.
