Social opportunities are an important part of the General English Summer Programme. These provide students with the opportunity to socialise with all students studying on the course as well as their tutors.
Weekly social activity
A weekly social activity is offered to all students studying on the General English Summer Programme. These sessions run on a Wednesday afternoon and are staffed by ELTS tutors. Social activities are normally cultural or excursion-based and include sessions such as:
Social activities are advertised to students in class at the start of the week. Most social activities are free to attend, but if there is a cost associated with this, students are advised in advance. Costs are minimal for these activities, and examples include a cup of coffee (£4), the cost of a picnic for one person (£5-7).
Weekly excursions
An excursion to a place of local interest is included in the course fee and, during a two-week period, students will attend one half-day and one full-day excursion. Excursions are staffed by ELTS tutors who carry an emergency phone and have all students’ contact details to ensure safety.
Excursions are advertised to students in advance and, before going, students are briefed to help them understand what they are going to see and do when at the location.
