Year in Industry Student at Tata Steel

Why study a Year in Industry?

Employers are increasingly looking for graduates with industry experience. If you're studying a BEng you’ll have the opportunity to undertake a year in industry between your second and third year of study, however if you're studying an MEng you can take a year in industry between your third and fourth year. It is normally a paid position and can take place in the UK or abroad (options available to you may depend on the details of the Brexit settlement negotiated by the UK government).

Our students have undertaken roles with Mercedes AMG, Valero, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce, GE Aviation, Laing O'Rourke and Atkins.

Benefits of a year in industry

  • Helps develop the key skills that graduate employers are looking for
  • Expands your professional networks
  • Enables you to turn classroom theory into real-world practice
