BSc Sport & Exercise Science, 2018-2021
Next Steps After Swansea
I went straight on to complete an MSc in Sport Performance Analysis (Analytics) at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Alongside my studies, I began an internship with Cardiff Rugby as part of the Performance Analysis team, gaining invaluable hands-on experience during training and match days. I spent two seasons there, also completing analysis work with the WRU, which gave me excellent exposure to applying academic knowledge in real-world performance environments.
Current Role
Performance Data Analyst at Red Zone Analysis, Bath
I provide data collection and analysis support to deliver performance insights for some of the world’s leading sporting organisations. I now lead the rugby department, which has included working with the British & Irish Lions 2025 analysis team to generate deeper insights beyond raw data through programming, particularly using Python. Other organisations I’ve supported include Ireland Men’s Rugby, San Diego Legion, World Rugby, GB Taekwondo and INEOS Grenadier.
Impact of Swansea
The BSc programme at Swansea exposed me to all aspects of sport performance and allowed me to keep my options open early on. Modules in biomechanics were particularly influential, thanks to their analytical focus, hands-on laboratory work, and use of KPIs to understand individual and team performance. This foundation played a key role in shaping my approach to performance analysis and data-driven decision-making.
Advice
My advice is to stay curious and build strong analytical foundations early. Learn to work confidently with data tools like Excel and SPSS, and seek opportunities to work with real performance datasets beyond class requirements. Most importantly, apply your skills in real sporting environments — collaborating with teams and athletes is what sets you apart.
