Next Steps After Swansea
After completing my degree, I went on to study for a master’s in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University. I then travelled in South East Asia while completing an Open University module, before beginning the Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route (SEPAR) with CASES.
Current Role
Sport & Exercise Psychologist (in Training)
I am now self-employed and working towards HCPC registration in November 2026. Alongside this, I also work as a cycling coach and freelance sports journalist.
During my training I have worked with organisations including Cricket Wales, Welsh Cycling, Penybont AFC, Team Derby, Coleg y Cymoedd and Active Gloucestershire, while also building a private client base.
Every day is different — I work across varied sporting environments, from pitch-side observation and real-time athlete support to one-to-one sessions, group workshops, and collaborating with coaches and support staff. I love seeing the impact sport psychology can have on athletes, coaches, and even wider life skills.
Impact of Swansea
Before applying to Swansea, I had just missed out on progressing to the Great Britain Senior Academy for cycling and was unsure of my next step. The Sport and Exercise Science degree allowed me to explore a wide range of topics, and the sport psychology module quickly became the area that stood out. The support from my dissertation supervisor and other staff was invaluable, particularly when securing references for my master’s at Loughborough. Being a sport scholar also provided excellent facilities and support that helped shape both my academic and athletic development.
Highlights
A major highlight has been finding a career I’m genuinely passionate about — especially in a field that once challenged me as an athlete. Turning that experience into something that now motivates me has been incredibly rewarding.
Advice
My advice is to say yes to opportunities and not be afraid to change direction. Stay open, explore what interests you, and let new experiences guide your path.
