Having come to Swansea through Clearing I didn't have much information besides where it was. When I was looking through my options, I was just looking for somewhere that I could do physics, out of my options Swansea appeared to be the best course. Now that I'm in my second year it’s safe to say that I wish I had been told about the university beforehand as I would have put it down most likely as my firm choice. The physics course not only has great content but is taught exceptionally well and the links to CERN provide great opportunities especially through the physics society who organise a trip every other year, I was lucky enough to go in my first year.

As a city, one of Swansea's best merits is that it's small and I've found that give it a very friendly and familiar atmosphere. It's also surrounded by picturesque landscapes from the Mumbles to the stones throw way that is Bannau Brycheiniog. I've also found that, by train, most places are easily accessible.

After graduating I want to continue study through a PhD, which based on my interest in particle physics and antimatter could well be at Swansea, and I certainly wouldn't be complaining. I feel it’s a university that’s praises aren't sung enough.

Are you/have you been part of a society?

Yes, I am currently a member, and in my second year the secretary of the physics society, Physoc. Every other year the society plans to hold a trip to CERN which is well worth a visit.

Throughout the year the society also holds various Socials and Trips including one to CISM, the semiconductor facility based on Bay Campus as well as the Physics Formal.

Have you lived in halls during your studies?

Yes, in my first year I lived in the student village, this was its last year before it was demolished so prices were cheap, and we got a free bus pass. Especially in first year living in halls is so important because you get to mix with other people not on your course but are still in the same position as you.

Did you apply through Clearing?

Yes, when applying through clearing I was just aiming to do a physics degree, Swansea offered the best course that happened to be like my original choice. I was impressed by what I saw when I came to visit. The Clearing Open Day, which as I'd already accepted the place was lucky. It was probably one of the best decisions that I had to make and it’s a shame I wasn't told about Swansea sooner.
