Mae'r modiwl yma¿n archwilio'r fframweithiau cyfreithiol sy'n llunio a rheoleiddio gwneud penderfyniadau mewn gofal cymdeithasol a gwaith cymdeithasol. Mae'n ystyried sut y gall gweithwyr cymdeithasol ddefnyddio cyfraith mewn ffordd sy'n galluogi newid yn gadarnhaol a chymdeithasol, ac yn archwilio gwerth y gyfraith o amrywiaeth o safbwyntiau, gan gynnwys defnyddwyr gwasanaeth a gweithwyr proffesiynol.

The module draws together aspects of earlier modules that have looked at the law, theory, social work practice and values and applies them to children in particular sets of circumstances. Child protection, `looked after children¿, the Integrated Children¿s System and youth justice will receive particular attention.

Introduction to Social Work Law
As a new student beginning your journey into the world of social work, this module marks your starting point. It¿s designed to build the essential foundations in terms of legal and policy knowledge for your academic studies and future professional practice.
At an introductory level, this module provides an overview of the legal processes and frameworks that inform and guide social work practice in the UK and, more specifically, Wales. This includes an introduction to the meaning and classification of law, the legislative process, devolution and its implications for the administration of law in Wales. It will also consider the court structure (civil and criminal) and the personnel of the law and their relationship with social workers.
Finally, supporting legislation in relation to Human Rights, Equality and Discrimination will be considered in the context of developing an anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory approach to practice. You will be encouraged to begin to critically appraise the strengths and limitations of legal frameworks in terms of human rights implications and in relation to issues of equality, within the wider context.

Fel myfyriwr newydd sy'n dechrau ar eich taith i fyd gwaith cymdeithasol ¿ y modiwl hwn yw eich man cychwyn. Fe'i ddyluniwyd i osod sylfaen gadarn o ran gwybodaeth gyfreithiol a pholisi eich astudiaethau academaidd a'ch ymarfer yn y dyfodol.
Ar lefel gyflwyniadol, mae'r modiwl hwn yn rhoi trosolwg o'r prosesau cyfreithiol a'r fframweithiau sy'n llywio ac sy'n arwain ymarfer gwaith cymdeithasol yn y DU ac, yn fwy penodol, yng Nghymru. Golyga hyn gyflwyniad i ystyr a dosbarthiad y gyfraith, y broses ddeddfwriaethol, datganoli a'i oblygiadau ar gyfer gweinyddu'r Gyfraith yng Nghymru. Bydd hefyd yn ystyried strwythur y Llys (sifil a throseddol) a phersonél y Gyfraith a'u perthynas â gweithwyr cymdeithasol.
Yn olaf, ystyrir cefnogi deddfwriaeth mewn perthynas â Hawliau Dynol, Cydraddoldeb a Gwahaniaethu yng nghyd-destun datblygu ymagwedd wrthormesol a gwrth-wahaniaethol at ymarfer. Undertaking and Using Social Work Research for Practice
This module introduces you to the world of research in social work and social care, showing how evidence shapes practice, planning, and decision making. You¿ll explore the different ways information is gathered and used, and begin to understand why research is such a vital part of improving services and supporting communities.
You¿ll gain an accessible introduction to qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches, learning how each can be applied to real life social work contexts. From interviews and case studies to surveys and statistical analysis, you¿ll discover how different methods provide unique insights into the lives of citizens and the challenges they face.
Alongside theory, you¿ll get hands on experience working with a diverse range of social work and social justice relevant statistical datasets at local, national and international levels and developing ICT skills that are essential for modern practice. By the end of the module, you¿ll not only understand the principles of research but also feel confident in applying them to your own studies and future professional work.

Critical Practice in Child Care and Law
The central premise of this module is that for practitioners to undertake critical practice they must first develop `criticality¿; an open stance that enables the practitioner to reflect on the context of practice, their own experiences and values as well as the differing perspectives of others. `Criticality¿ is promoted through, for example, personal reflection, reading, research, discussion, debate and analysis.
During the module students are encouraged to critically reflect on a wide range of issues together with staff, visiting practitioners, service users and peers. The order in which topics and issues are introduced is arranged so that students are able to gain an understanding of the wider context of childcare practice before working through complex case studies of individual children. Students begin by examining international, national and regional childcare issues. They then examine key childcare legislation and policy before focusing on safeguarding and, in particular, child protection. Specific topics relating to childhood vulnerability are then considered, for example, `State accommodation¿/adoption of children, `youth justice¿ and `young carers¿. Special attention is given to preventative social work.

Undertaking & Using Social Work Research for Practice
In this engaging and practical module, you¿ll explore what it means to be `research-minded¿¿a vital skill for any reflective and effective social work practitioner. Together, we¿ll unpack how evidence-based practice informs decision-making, and you¿ll develop your existing knowledge or even learn for the first time about social work research methods. You¿ll dive into social work research case studies from social work researchers, practitioners and Social Care Wales, learning how they designed and carried out research using quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods of data collection and analysis. We¿ll also reflect on the ethical and value-based dimensions of research, helping you understand how to conduct studies that are both rigorous, respectful and in alignment with social work values and ethics.
This module isn¿t just theoretical¿you¿ll get hands-on experience working with statistical datasets and digital tools, building your confidence in using ICT for research. By the end, you¿ll be well-prepared to take on your own empirical or desk-based dissertation in the second year of your Master¿s journey.
