HSC113
Introduction to Cardiovascular Science
This module introduces students to the theory and practice of cardiovascular science, laying the groundwork for future clinical learning. It focuses on applying knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and instrumentation to understand the principles behind basic diagnostic investigations. These foundations will be built upon in later cardiology modules to support the development of safe and effective clinical practice.
You will explore the anatomy and physiology of the heart and vascular system, including its embryological development, conduction system and cardiac cycle. The module also introduces common cardiovascular pathologies such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, heart failure, and acute coronary syndromes, alongside their associated risk factors.
Practical learning includes clinical theory, simulation, and skills labs. You will gain experience in patient-centred care, communication, and basic evaluation techniques. You will learn the principles and practice of electrocardiography (ECG), blood pressure measurement, and recognition of normal and abnormal cardiovascular signs. This practical approach helps you begin to translate theory into clinical competence.

SHC232
Instrumentation Signal Processing and Imaging
This is a module for students following Healthcare Science programmes that details the theory and application of physiological measurement and imaging in healthcare.
-
SHC238
Pathophysiology of Common Cardiovascular and Respiratory Conditions
This module will prepare students for their role in clinical practice by ensuring they understand the pathophysiology of common conditions that result in referral to cardiovascular, respiratory and sleep services.
-
SHC239
Measurement of Resting Cardiovascular Function
This module builds on knowledge and skills gained in SHC157 Introduction to Cardiovascular Science. Students will explore electrocardiography and blood pressure recording in greater depth with a particular focus on differentiation of normal and abnormal findings. Skills labs will allow students to develop competence in the clinical techniques necessary for placement activity.
-
SHC240
Measurement of Cardiovascular Function During Provocation Testing
This module builds on knowledge and skills gained in SHC157 Introduction to Cardiovascular Science. Students will explore ambulatory and exercise electrocardiography as well as ambulatory blood pressure recording. Skills labs will allow students to develop competence in the clinical techniques necessary for placement activity.
-
SHC338
Evidence-Based Practice in Cardiology
The module will prepare students for their professional role as a healthcare science practitioner in Cardiology. Students will gain an understanding of their role in the patient pathway and the importance of evidence-based practice that considers patient-centred care.

Anatomy & Physiology (1)
This module continues with the College of Paramedics¿ themes and domains of the curriculum framework and focuses on developing knowledge around anatomy and physiology of systems within the human body, exploring both normal and abnormal changes and how abnormal pathological changes are represented by clinical features associated with common conditions. This module will also develop your knowledge around drug calculations. You will be supported with academic skills and expected to engage with the e-learning component of this module which will support your educational journey and prepare you for summative assessments.

Anatomeg a Ffisioleg
Mae'r modiwl hwn yn parhau â themâu a pharthau fframwaith cwricwlwm y Coleg Parafeddygaeth, ac mae'n canolbwyntio ar ddatblygu gwybodaeth am anatomeg a ffisioleg systemau'r corff dynol, gan archwilio newidiadau normal ac anarferol, a sut y caiff newidiadau patholegol anarferol eu cynrychioli gan nodweddion clinigol sy'n gysylltiedig â chyflyrau cyffredin. Bydd y modiwl hwn hefyd yn datblygu eich gwybodaeth am gyfrifo meddyginiaethau. Byddwch yn cael eich cefnogi gan sgiliau academaidd, a disgwylir i chi ymgysylltu â chydran e-addysgu'r modiwl hwn a fydd yn cefnogi eich taith addysgu ac yn eich paratoi ar gyfer asesiadau crynodol.¿

Out of Hospital Management of Medical Conditions
Building on the previous modules and practice experience, this module will enable learners to enhance their understanding of pathophysiology and develop skills to effectively manage community based care. The module will facilitate learners to undertake a safe consultation that includes the broader issues of health and social care, enabling appropriate clinical decision making that meets the needs of the patient and their relatives or carers. Leaners will develop their understanding of health promotion, appropriate pathways of care and enhance their skills towards effective and safe management of patients within the community setting.
Developing problem based learning will be facilitated using a blended approach for professional development; with opportunities for learners to work and learn within an interprofessional setting.
Practice based learning will be supported by a week placement in a hospice and a further week placement within the community supported by Palliative and End of Life Care teams. Further placements will be undertaken on an emergency ambulance and or rapid response vehicle with the Welsh Ambulance Service.
The module will be supported by e- learning.

Rheoli Cyflyrau Meddygol y Tu Allan i'r Ysbyty
Gan adeiladu ar y modiwlau blaenorol a phrofiad ymarferol, bydd y modiwl hwn yn galluogi'r dysgwyr i wella eu dealltwriaeth o bathoffisioleg a meithrin sgiliau i reoli'n effeithiol ofal yn y gymuned a'r tu allan i'r ysbyty. Bydd y modiwl yn rhoi cyfle i'r dysgwyr ymgymryd ag ymgynghoriad diogel sy'n cynnwys materion ehangach iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol, gan eu galluogi i wneud penderfyniadau clinigol priodol sy'n diwallu anghenion y claf a'i berthnasau neu ei ofalwyr. Bydd y dysgwyr yn meithrin eu dealltwriaeth o hybu iechyd a llwybrau gofal priodol, ac yn gwella eu sgiliau er mwyn rheoli cleifion yn effeithiol ac yn ddiogel yn y gymuned.
Caiff dysgu ar sail problemau ei ddatblygu drwy ddefnyddio ymagwedd gyfunol at ddatblygiad proffesiynol, a bydd cyfleoedd i ddysgwyr weithio a dysgu mewn lleoliad rhyngbroffesiynol.
Caiff dysgu ar sail ymarfer ei ategu gan leoliad gwaith am wythnos mewn hosbis a lleoliad gwaith arall am wythnos yn y gymuned drwy gymorth timau gofal lliniarol a gofal diwedd oes. Bydd lleoliadau gwaith eraill mewn ambiwlans argyfwng a/neu gerbyd ymateb cyflym gyda Gwasanaeth Ambiwlans Cymru.
Bydd y modiwl yn cael ei ategu gan e-ddysgu.
