John has a diverse science, engineering, and computing background, giving him a multi-disciplinary approach to Data Science and innovation.
Starting with a PhD in computational fluid dynamics, he worked in renewable energy industry, developing automated wind farm power prediction and optimisation techniques for major energy companies, before starting his own consultancy.
His experience with High Performance Computing lead to a job with Moleculomics, a spin-out company in Swansea University’s Medical School. Here he designed and implemented the software infrastructure for a major bioinformatics project for the Ministry of Defence. Other projects included genome-scale in-silico screening using HPC, machine learning and AI research, and developing web-based user interfaces.
John currently works jointly as an Innovation Technologist in the University’s Health Technology Centre, and in the Population Data Science group on a project looking at Value Based Healthcare in inflammatory bowel disease.
