Collaborations

1 Multi-database non-interventional UK study of the comparative effectiveness and safety of SGLT2 inhibitors in the management of type 2 diabetes in the United Kingdom (EMPRISE-UK)

This is a multisite UK wide collaborative study led by the University of Leicester real world evidence unit using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) database with three collaborative sites in Swansea University using SAIL, University of Birmingham with The Health Improvement Network (THIN) and Imperial College Health using discover databanks. Analysis from the four sites will be combined in a meta-analysis which is the first of its kind in the UK. This collaborative forms part of a wider multicentre study with sites in Europe and the US assessing the safety and effectiveness of the therapies outside of randomised control trials.

2 ‘The EYE: the window of opportunity to detect complications in people with diabetes’

This is a collaboration between between The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Diabetes Research Unit Cymru (DRU Cymru). The work involves using retinal images to measure changes in the retinal micro-vasculature to predict future events of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, stroke and dementia.
