Laura Baker

Laura Baker Profile Image

Laura works at the interface between academic and industry

Her research focuses on looking at the functionality of probiotic isolates via genomic and in vitro assays.

Her interests lie in looking at the modulation of the gut microbiota utilising strains from the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria genera.

She currently has a working collaboration with Cultech Ltd -   a probiotic manufacturing company based in South Wales.

Laura’s research interests lay within the genomic and phenotypic characterisation of symbiotic and commensal bacteria in different animal hosts.

Adopting a polyphasic approach, Laura’s research aims at charactering bacterial isolates and scrutinising whole genome sequences for probiotic traits.

Laura’s current research focuses on using a genome guided approach to underpin molecular mechanisms that provide health benefits to mammalian hosts that have been supplemented with probiotic bacteria.
