Dr Tyrie is a lecturer and acting programme director of the Early Childhood Studies Programmes at Swansea University School of Education. Jacky has worked for 10 years as lecturer and researcher in higher education, with posts in Cardiff Metropolitan University and Swansea University. Dr Tyrie’s research explores early childhood from sociological and geographical perspectives and focuses on research around children’s rights and equality within early childhood care and education settings. 

Dr Tyrie is a national leader in children’s rights and co-ordinates the Children’s Rights in Early Years Network (CREYN). The CREY Network draws together, academics with policy makers, NGO’s and practitioners to share knowledge and work together. She has published articles around rights within some of the following journals The International Journal of Children’s Rights, The British Journal of Sociology and theWales Journal of Education.

Jacky has been principal investigator on the following projects ‘Home Based Support: Pop in and Play’ and ‘Participation in Early Education’. Jacky is currently exploring ways of examining young children’s ‘lived’ experiences of human rights.
